What
is the forum?
The
Sea-to-Sky backcountry winter sharing forum is a group of 30 community
members looking for ways to share the winter back-country and prevent
conflicts from developing between motorized and non-motorized recreational
users in the Squamish Forest District.
Forum participants represent a cross-section of outdoor
clubs, snowmobile clubs, backcountry commercial recreation tourism
operators, and several government agencies.
Participants were concerned about increased crowding
and the potential for conflicts in the Squamish Forest District.
If the community didn't develop its own accord for sharing Crown
land, it risked having government impose one - as it has elsewhere.
Governments other places in North America have stepped
in when confrontations between motorized and non-motorized users
got ugly. The Sea-to-Sky corridor has not yet seen this kind of
conflict, and the goal of the Forum is to prevent it from happening.
